One dock, from the departures page to the captain’s phone.

Tidewater Tours is our test business on River Street in Savannah, Georgia: a two-hour dolphin and marsh cruise three times a day on one boat, the Lantern Walk in the evenings, a captain and a guide. Every screen below comes from it, in October.

01

Every tour’s departures this week, with the seats left.

Guests call to ask which tour has seats on Saturday, and the answer is on three calendars.

One page lists every departure of every tour for the week, with the seats left: Saturday’s 10:00 cruise has 13 of 24, the 1:00 has 12, the 4:00 has 20, the Lantern Walk 10 of 16. A tap opens that departure’s booking.

02

Adults, children and the trolley in one booking.

A family books two adults and two children, then calls to ask how the children pay and where the trolley stops.

Saturday’s 1:00: two adults at $45, two children 3 to 12 at $25 on their own ticket, the trolley from the Riverlight Hotel at $5 an adult (children ride free). The children take seats from the same 24 as the adults. In the cart: the children’s tickets on their own line, $150.

03

The tickets on their phones, scanned at the dock.

At the dock the crew counts heads against a printed list, and a family insists it paid for four.

Each line of the booking is a ticket with its own QR code: the Moss family’s adults (admits 2) and their children (Child (3 to 12), admits 2). The crew scans them at the dock; a scanned ticket shows how many came in and can’t be used twice.

04

One boat, sold once: the cruises or a private charter.

The boat gets chartered for Saturday at 1, and the 1:00 cruise has been selling for a week.

The boat is a product of its own, the Private Marsh Charter, and every cruise departure holds it. On Saturday a charter can start at 8:00 am or 6:30 pm, the hours the cruises leave free; the 10, 1 and 4 aren’t offered.

05

The charter group picked up at their rental. The road miles price the van.

A family reunion on Tybee Island books the boat and asks for a ride, and the van’s price is a guess on the phone.

The charter’s checkout offers the van to the dock and back, priced from the road miles between the dock and the house: $3 a mile, $30 at least, up to 30 miles; or the group meets the boat at Dock 3. A house on Tybee Island is 19 miles: the sunset charter on the 24th, $650, and the van $57. Cruise and walk guests keep the flat trolley from the Historic District hotels.

06

The season drawn once: three departures a day, March to November.

Every spring the timetable gets typed in again, day by day, and Thanksgiving gets sold by mistake.

The cruise’s schedule in one place: departures at 10, 1 and 4, every day, two hours, 24 guests; the season from March 1 to November 30; Thanksgiving off; the boat as the resource it uses. The month beside it shows what that makes.

07

A small-craft advisory: the 10:00 goes out at 6:30, with everyone on it.

Weather closes the morning, and the office spends an hour calling eleven people and rebooking them by hand.

One move in the week: Saturday’s 10:00 cruise goes to 6:30 pm with its eleven guests, its captain and the boat. The morning is empty; the evening shows the departure with Ruth and 11 of 24.

08

Every family told, once, and the captain’s day changed.

“We came at 10 and nobody was here.”

Each family gets one e-mail with the old time and the new one (a family with a children’s ticket used to get two). Ruth’s phone already shows the new Saturday: the 1:00, the 4:00 and the 6:30 with 11 guests.

09

Halloween gets a second walk at 10.

A special night means a new product, a new page, and guests booking the wrong one.

A one-off departure in the walk’s own schedule: on Saturday the 31st the Lantern Walk runs at 8 and at 10, on the same page, with the same tickets and 16 places each.

10

Every departure’s load, day by day, and the ones too small to run.*

The 4:00 cruise has four guests and nobody notices until the captain is on the dock.

Every cruise and lantern walk from Saturday the 3rd to Sunday the 11th, the guests booked against the places, the days a tour doesn’t run, Saturday’s 10:00 moved to 6:30 pm by the advisory, and the departures from today under a six-guest minimum flagged to merge or call off: the 4:00 cruise with four, Sunday’s 10:00 with two. The platform lists one tour’s departures with the seats left (row 01).

Your website, with every tour and its departures on it. Included.

Guests decide from a phone on River Street, between two other tour stands.

We build it in your name: the cruise, the walk and the charter with their prices and times, this week’s departures, your day at the dock, the weather, your questions. Every Book button opens the real page. Hosting is included.

Tidewater, the test business. Yours looks like yours.

Tidewater Tours is a test business we built for this page; the guests’, the captain’s and the guide’s names and the hotels are made up, the phone numbers don’t exist and the photos are generated. Every screen not marked * is the system, with the test business’s October run through it; the mail window around the guest’s e-mail is drawn (its sender, subject and text are the real e-mail), and in row 09 the departures between today and October 29 are left out of the picture. The road miles on the charter checkout are a stand-in: the test box has no Google Maps key, so the distance for that address is set by hand; the rate by the mile, the rounding and the price are the system’s own.

* In beta testing.

You run the business. We build the tech.

Skip the setup headaches. Unlike other software where you start with a blank screen, Reservety includes Concierge Setup (we build your entire system for you) to get you live in 3-5 business days.

Questions tour operators ask us

If yours isn’t here, ask us. A person answers.

Do children take seats from the same boat?
Yes. A departure’s places count every ticket, adult or child, so 24 places is 24 people.
Can a tour need a minimum number of guests to run?
Not yet. You see each departure’s bookings and move or cancel it yourself; the platform doesn’t cancel a departure that’s under a minimum. Row 10 draws a grid that would flag them.
What happens when the weather cancels a departure?
Move it to another time in one step: the guests, the guide and the boat go with it, and each family gets one e-mail with the new time.
Do guests need to print their tickets?
No. Each ticket has a QR code on the phone; you scan it at the dock or type its code.
Can we pick charter groups up from their rental?
Yes. The charter’s checkout prices the van by the road miles from your dock (Google Maps): a rate a mile, a minimum and a farthest distance, or the group meets you at the dock. Tour tickets keep a flat pickup option, like the trolley.
Can we sell rentals too, bikes or kayaks?
Yes. Rentals by the hour or the day sit beside the tours on the same site and checkout.
Can hotel concierges sell our tours?
Give each desk its own code: the code shows on each booking it sold. Commissions aren’t calculated for you yet.
Can guests tip the captain online?
Yes: a tip as an option on the ticket, with its amount, paid with the booking.
