Four cruiser sizes on four listings, and the Large for Thanksgiving week sold twice.

The Beach Cruiser is one page with a Frame size picker: Kids 20 in, Small, Medium, Large. Each size has its own count and its own calendar. Thanksgiving week all ten Large are out, so Large closes the 21st to the 27th, while Medium stays open.

A day, three days, the week.

Vacationers ask for the week price, and the daily rate times seven scares them off.

The rate table is on the page: $25 a day, $45 for three days, $65 for the week. A Medium from November 1 to 8 comes to $65, the week rate, and the free helmets are a box to tick.

The whole family in one cart, on one set of dates.

A family of four calls with four heights, a toddler and a trailer, and someone writes it on a sticky note.

Each bike goes in the cart for the same week: a Large, a Medium and a Kids 20 in, each with a free helmet, and the child trailer, November 14 to 21. The cart keeps one date range for all of them; change it once and every line moves and re-prices. $240 for the week.

Delivered to the rental house. The road miles set the fee.

Free on the island, a fee by the mile past the bridge, and the office measures every address on a map.

At checkout the address picks the delivery. On Hilton Head it’s free: the island’s ZIPs. Off the island the fee comes from the road miles between the shop and the house: $1.50 a mile, $20 at least, up to 35 miles. A house on Live Oak Road in Bluffton is 20 miles, so $30. Pick up at the shop is always there, and the van brings the bikes on the first morning and collects them on the last.

Saturday: the van’s drops and pickups.

Saturday is changeover day: half the houses get bikes, half give them back, and it all runs off a whiteboard.

Logistics for Saturday the 10th: four deliveries, Chris, Maria in Bluffton, Raj and Lisa, and two pickups at the houses, David’s and Jen’s, with the addresses and how many bikes. The family picking up at the shop is on the counter list, not the van’s.

Codes for the rental companies that send you guests.

Property managers send guests your way, and nobody can say which one sent whom.

Each vacation-rental company gets its own code, 10% off for its guests. The coupon list counts the bookings: Marsh Hen Vacation Rentals 5, Sandy Wren Vacation Homes 3, Blue Crab Cottages 1, with the orders behind each count one click away.

E-bikes: the renter’s ID checked before the keys.

A $2,000 e-bike goes out on a name and a card number.

E-bikes sit in a category that needs an ID check. After paying, Raj sees “Verify Your Identity” on the booking and in the e-mail, and Stripe checks the photo ID. On Chris’s order the office sees Verified, with the time. The check comes after payment, so the shop’s rule is simple: no e-bike goes on the van until the order says Verified.

Thanksgiving week, size by size.

In September the families book Thanksgiving, and nobody knows how many Larges are left.

The stock view for November 21 to 28, the cruiser’s sizes on their own lines: every Large out all week, 9 Medium free of 14, 4 of 6 kids’ bikes, 6 of 8 e-bikes, 5 of 6 trailers. Time to tell the next family to take a Medium, or to buy two more Larges.

Due back tomorrow, and the bikes already late.

Bikes left under the stairs on checkout day, and a family gone home with a key to a lock.

The day before the end, the platform e-mails the renter: the bikes are due back tomorrow, leave them where they were dropped, and reply to stay longer. Jen’s e-mail lists the four bikes and the trailer. Bikes not back show up as late on the return list: Ben’s two Larges, one day over.

Your rental website, with the bikes on it. Included.

Most bike shops have a price list on Facebook and a phone that rings all of Saturday morning.

We build it in your name: the cruisers by size, the e-bikes and trailers, delivery to the rental house, the rates, your shop hours. Every Book button opens the real bike page. Hosting is included.

Island Spokes, the test shop. Yours looks like yours.

Island Spokes Bike Rentals is a test shop we built for this page; the renters’ names are made up, the phone numbers don’t exist and the photos are generated. Every screen is the system, with the test shop’s October run through it. The road miles on the Bluffton checkout are a stand-in: the test box has no Google Maps key, so the distance for that address is set by hand; the rate by the mile, the rounding and the price are the system’s own. Chris’s verified ID is recorded on the order the way Stripe’s confirmation records it (the test box can’t receive Stripe’s call), and the due-back e-mail’s wording is the shop’s own.
