Frequently Asked Questions

Is snowboard size based on height or weight?
Weight is the primary factor, not height. A board needs to support your weight to flex properly. Two riders who are both 5'10" but weigh 150 and 200 lbs need very different board lengths. Height is a secondary reference point, but always size by weight first. This calculator uses weight as the primary input and adjusts for riding style.
How do I know if I need a wide snowboard?
If your boot size is US 11 or larger, you likely need a wide board (26+ cm waist width). The test is simple: when your boots are mounted on the board, your toes and heels should not hang more than 1-2 cm over the edges. Too much overhang causes toe and heel drag during turns, which can catch an edge and throw you. Enter your boot size in this calculator to check.
What does snowboard flex mean?
Flex is rated on a 1-10 scale from soft to stiff. Soft flex (1-4) is forgiving, easy to turn, and good for beginners and park riding. Medium flex (4-6) is versatile for all-mountain riding. Stiff flex (7-10) is stable at high speed and in variable conditions but harder to maneuver at low speed. Your riding style and ability should determine the flex you choose.
Should I size down for a freestyle snowboard?
Yes, freestyle and park boards typically run 2-4 cm shorter than an all-mountain board. A shorter board is lighter, easier to spin, and more maneuverable for tricks. However, do not go too short or you will lose stability on landings. This calculator automatically adjusts the recommended length down for freestyle riding style.
