Frequently Asked Questions

How should a wetsuit fit?
A wetsuit should fit like a second skin - snug everywhere with no loose areas, gaps, or excessive bunching. You should be able to raise your arms overhead and squat without restriction. Some tightness when dry is normal because neoprene stretches slightly when wet. If you can easily pinch more than an inch of material away from your body, the suit is too loose and will flush cold water.
What wetsuit thickness do I need?
Thickness depends on water temperature. For warm water above 72F, a 2mm shorty or spring suit works. For 65-75F, a 3/2mm fullsuit is standard. For 55-65F, step up to a 5/4/3mm suit. Below 55F, you need a 6/5/4mm suit with a hood, gloves, and booties. Rental shops in temperate areas typically stock 3/2mm and 5/4/3mm suits to cover most conditions.
What is the difference between men's and women's wetsuit sizing?
Women's wetsuits are cut differently - narrower shoulders, shorter torso, wider hips, and more room in the chest area. Women should always try women's-specific suits rather than sizing down in a men's suit, as the proportions will be wrong. Unisex suits work for some body types but typically fit like a slightly relaxed men's cut.
